Stiebel Eltron Accelera 300 E
Get the superior, reliable and energy-saving heat pump water heater for your home

Decades of experience with heat pumps have made it obvious to Stiebel Eltron engineers that a heat pump water heater should produce hot water with the heat pump, not with a back-up element. It may sound like a simple idea, but it seems to have escaped other heater manufacturers. Stiebel Eltron's heat pump water heater has been the biggest seller in Europe for over 30 years.

What's the difference?

Hybrid Water Heaters Accelera Heat Pump Water Heaters
Heat Pump Mode

Their most efficient mode earns the greatest savings. The water heater only operates along with the heat pump.

Hybrids have to be set to the proper mode in order to provide comfort or to save energy.

This is the only available "setting." Accelera was engineered to satisfy 90% of your hot water needs using the heat pump alone. For high demand situations, there is one special electric booster element installed at the top of the tank. The element has been designed to run as little as possible to maintain comfort and maximize savings.
Hybrid Mode Two standard electric elements activate for speedy water temperature recovery. The unit allows the heat pump to work once the demand has been met using electric elements. Accelera was designed to meet your hot water needs without having to change any setting, making it very simple to use. Without having to change any setting, you get both comfort and savings with your hot water.
High Demand Mode Two standard electric elements activate faster and stay on longer than "hybrid" mode. Accelera was engineered to work harmoniously as a whole. Savings and comfort are achieved without the need to ask, "what setting should I choose today?"
Disabled Mode The heat pump is disabled and only the two electric elements heat up water. "Hybrids" don't have an active defrost mode and must be disabled so the evaporator can be defrosted. The unit is also disabled if the heat pump fails. Accelera's heat pump doesn't have to be disabled to defrost. It was also engineered for extra reliability. Why pay more for a heat pump heater if you'll just end up with a regular electric tank?
Vacation Mode The water heater maintains a low temperature in the tank before reheating the water one day before you return. The super-insulated tank keeps the water hot through a 2-week vacation for no more than $4. You don't have to worry if vacation mode has been set to wake up on the right day.

Heat pump water heating technology greatly reduces the energy requirements to create hot water. This ground breaking technology is the benchmark for water heater efficiency. For each watt the Accelera's fan and compressor consumes, the equivalent of 3 to 5 watts of hot water are produced. The best so-called "high efficiency" heaters can only make 1 watt of hot water with each watt of energy they use.

Designed to use the backup element as little as possible

Accelera heat pump water heaters were designed to supply up to 80% of an average household's annual hot water needs using the heat pump, not the backup element. This results to the lowest energy costs for hot water while still producing enough hot water to keep everyone happy. This can be done by preventing cold water from entering the tank and mixing with the hot water already inside the tank. That way, maximum heat can be drawn before using the backup element.

How the heat pump works in your Accelera

The Accelera works like an air conditioner. Only, instead of dumping the heat outdoors, it transfers all that heat into the water tank.

The heat pump system features a fan which forces room air through an evaporator (1). It contains a liquid refrigerant that takes heat from the ambient air while it evaporates. The refrigerant changes into a gas as it warms.

The warm gaseous refrigerant goes through the compressor (2) that increases its pressure. While the pressure increases, refrigerant gets warmer until it becomes hot.

The hot refrigerant then goes through the condenser (3), which wraps around the water tank. Heat travels from hot to cold, so the refrigerant transfers the heat to the water.

The refrigerant, now a super-cool liquid, then goes through an expansion valve (4), where it becomes a gas and the process begins again.
